Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
This website, freddiefelstead.com, is the home of the Freddie Felstead mystery series. It is run by E.F. March (the pen name under which the books are written), who is the "data controller" for the personal information described below. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean E.F. March.
If you have any questions about this policy, or about your information, you can contact us at hello@freddiefelstead.com.
We try to collect as little information as we can, and to be plain about what we do with it.
What we collect, and why
If you sign up to our newsletter
We collect your email address (and your first name, if the sign-up form asks for it) so that we can send you news about the Freddie Felstead books, such as launch announcements and new releases. We only do this because you have asked us to, so our legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any email we send.
Newsletters are sent using Squarespace Email Campaigns, which may record whether you open an email and which links you click. We use this only to see what readers find interesting. We keep your details until you unsubscribe.
If you get in touch
If you use the contact form or email us, we collect your name, your email address and whatever you choose to tell us in your message. We use this only to reply to you. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: it is reasonable for us to use your details to answer you when you have written to us. We normally delete messages within 12 months of the conversation ending, unless we need to keep them for longer for a legal reason.
When you visit the website
We use the analytics built into Squarespace to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they read. This records technical information such as the pages you view, the website that sent you here, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (for example, your country or city, worked out from your IP address). We do not use it to identify you personally. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner, so our legal basis is your consent. Analytics data is kept for the periods set by Squarespace.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. This site uses:
Essential cookies, which keep the site secure and working properly. These are always on.
Analytics cookies, described above. These are off unless you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time by clearing your cookies or using the banner's settings.
Who we share your information with
We use two services that handle your information on our behalf:
Squarespace, which hosts this website and provides its forms, newsletter tool and analytics.
Google (Google Workspace), which provides the email service for hello@freddiefelstead.com, so it handles messages you send to us.
These companies may only use your information to provide their services to us. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own marketing. We may disclose information if the law requires us to.
Transfers outside the UK
Squarespace and Google are international companies, so your information may be processed outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, they rely on recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses approved for use in the UK.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
ask us to correct anything that is wrong
ask us to delete your information
ask us to restrict how we use it
object to our using it, where we rely on legitimate interests
withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent (this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it)
ask for your information in a portable format, where it applies
To use any of these rights, email hello@freddiefelstead.com. We will reply within one month.
Complaints
We hope we can put right any concern you have, so please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Links to other websites
This site links to retailers and other websites, such as the shops where our books are sold. Once you leave this site, those websites' own privacy policies apply, and we are not responsible for them.
Children
This website is written for adult readers and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given us their details, please email us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
